Numerical and Experimental Modeling of Scour at Foundation Structures for Offshore Wind Turbines
نویسنده
چکیده
There is presently a lack of knowledge of scour progression for complex offshore foundation structures, such as Tripod foundations for offshore wind turbines. Typically, scour is investigated in physical model tests. As an extension, parts of the investigations could be carried out by using numerical methods; however, such numerical methods require that all relevant processes leading to scour are captured well by the model. The general possibility for conducting such numerical simulations is presented here, given by the examples of flow, shear stress, and scour calculations for a Tripod foundation and a circular cylinder. The numerical investigations were carried out within the framework of OpenFOAM software code, which was extended by an appropriate scour model.

An Investigation into the Effect of Scour on the Loading and Deformation Responses of Monopile Foundations
Severe foundation scour may occur around monopile foundations of offshore wind turbines due to currents and waves. The so-called p-y curves method is suggested in the existing design recommendations to determine the behavior of monopiles unprotected against scour and the reduction of effective soil stress is accounted for by the extreme scour depth. This conservative design approach does not co...

Structural optimization of offshore wind turbine structures has become an important issue in the past years due to the noticeable developments in offshore wind industry. However, considering the offshore wind turbines’ size and environment, this task is outstandingly difficult. To overcome this barrier, in this paper, a metaheuristic algorithm called Enhanced Colliding Bodies Optimization...

متن کاملThe Effect of Lateral Loading Parameters on Monopile Behavior Based on Physical Modeling
Monopiles are the most common type of foundation for offshore wind turbines (OWT). Monopiles have been used in more than 80% of the offshore wind turbines. A monopile will be affected by millions of lateral load cycles during the operating period, which will cause its rotation and lateral deformation. The rotation and the deformation are dependent on the soil properties, monopile specification,...
